Boracol 5Rh · Mould, algae and wood-rot treatment · Thailand and Asia-Pacific

Black mould and algae remover for timber decks, walkways, walls and roofs.

Boracol 5Rh is the boron-based surface biocide and wood preservative that European boatyards and heritage-timber restorers use. One application kills the growth the wet season leaves on teak, hardwood decking, timber cladding, boardwalks, render and paths, and the boron it carries into timber protects against rot and woodworm. Drake Co., Ltd. is ACS’s appointed Boracol distributor for the Asia-Pacific region, with stock in Thailand.

Pool decks, boardwalks, cladding, roofs and paths.

Anything outdoors in Thailand goes green and black between May and October. Boracol is the maintenance product for the surfaces that cost the most to replace.

Pool decks and villa terraces

Teak and hardwood decks around pools and sea-view terraces: kill the black-spot mould and slippery algae without sanding away the timber, and keep the deck safe underfoot for guests.

Boardwalks, jetties and water villas

Resort walkways and overwater villas live in salt spray and shade. One treatment per season keeps kilometres of timber clean, non-slip and free of rot.

Cladding, pergolas and shingle roofs

Timber cladding, pergolas, screens and roof shingles that streak green and black every monsoon, treated once from a sprayer.

Render, paths, patios and roofs

The same product works on masonry: algae and lichen on rendered walls, paving, steps and roof tiles, where pressure washing damages the surface.

Timber structures: rot and woodworm

A wood preservative for roof timbers, floor joists, joinery and furniture — remedial treatment where wet rot or wood-boring insects have started, and prevention where they have not.

Boats, covers and GRP

Where it started: yacht teak decks, canvas covers, cushions and GRP. Boat owners order from our marine side at drakemarine.com.

How to kill black mould on timber — without pressure washing.

Boracol 5Rh is a clear, water-based, ready-to-use solution of disodium octaborate tetrahydrate and a quaternary ammonium biocide. The quaternary kills the algae, mould and lichen on the surface; the boron soaks into timber and stays there as a preservative. It is practically odourless, low-VOC, non-flammable and does not stain.

1 · Wash and let it dry to damp

Remove loose growth and dirt with water (no pressure washer on timber). Apply to a damp, not wet, surface on a dry day.

2 · Apply until saturated

Brush, roller or low-pressure sprayer. One litre treats 2–4 m² depending on how thirsty the surface is; weathered timber drinks more.

3 · Leave it to work

Growth dies over the following days and weathers away; timber returns to a clean, even silver. No scrubbing, no rinsing.

The Thai programme: twice a year

Treat straight after the rains (October–November) so surfaces are clean and safe for the whole high season, and again just before the wet season (April–May) so growth never establishes. Two treatments cover the year. For resorts we schedule both into the maintenance calendar and hold the stock.

How much do you need?

Planning figures at 3 m² per litre, one saturating application per treatment. Supplied in 5 L packs; 20 L and bulk packaging for projects.

What designers and owners say.

“Just wanted to let you know that Boracol is the real deal. Really no trace of black mould at all, even after about eight months. Really pleased — the first treatment I have found that works.”

Dennis Stanfill — Director, HB Design

“I have worked on yachts all my life, and Boracol is the only thing I put on a teak deck. No harsh acid eating into the grain, no scrubbing the timber thinner every season — you put it on, it kills the black mould where it lives, and the wood comes back clean and silver by itself. That is why we brought it to Thailand.”

Matt Sheldrake — founder, Drake Co., Ltd.

Boracol 5Rh is a biocide: it is applied with gloves and eye protection, kept away from pools and the sea while wet, and people and pets stay off treated surfaces until dry. It is a regulated hazardous substance in Thailand and is supplied with the Thai label and data sheet.
